I went out for dinner tonight in Le Plateau, a trendy place in Montreal with a lot of nice restaurants. At the end of the meal the waitress asked us how we would like to split the cheque. I love that in Montreal they ask you first and they don’t mind if you split the cheque.
I have lived in Vancouver and Toronto and there they just slap a big bill down on the table, usually with the tip added on already. In a trendy area, the tip might be 20% even if the service was not good.
This is one of the many quirks and differences of Quebec as compared to the rest of Canada.
